Timothy B. King, Senior Vice President, Planning & Development, joined the company in 1987 as Vice President of the Periodicals Division. Since that time, he has held positions at Wiley of increasing responsibility. Since assuming his current position in 1990, Mr. King has played a key role in the company’s acquisitions, in particular the $100 million acquisition of VCH in 1996 of which he was Managing Director for the first year following the acquisition, the $200 million acquisition of Hungry Minds, Inc. in 2001, and the $1 billion acquisition of Blackwell Publishing in 2007.
Before joining Wiley, Mr. King held publishing positions in England, Germany, Mexico and the United States. He served as Vice President of the Book Division at Springhouse Corporation, in addition to other executive positions at Pergamon Press, Macmillan, and the McGraw-Hill International Book Company.
Mr. King received a B.A. and M.A. from Cambridge University in the United Kingdom.
Mr. King served as Chair of the Enabling Technologies Committee of the Association of American Publishers, and was one of the pioneers in the early development and launch of the Digital Object Identifier (DOI), which has become the industry standard for the identification of text objects.
